The Ecosystem: magic Chile

At the beginning, God created all the known wonders of the world. Nevertheless, when finished, He realized that there were many pieces left scattered: there were raging rivers and fertile valleys, pristine glaciers and silent deserts, towering mountains, virgin forests and gentle hills. But instead of discarding all these beauties he decided to gather them together in the farthest place of earth. That is how Chile was formed.

It is been said that Chile is a land isolated by four natural boundaries, a situation that confers unique scenic and biological characteristics. At the north we find the Atacama Desert, regarded as the driest one of the world, adorned by salt basins, sandy lands, geysers, volcanoes and vast mineral deposits. The west is guarded by the Pacific Ocean and its famous Humboldt Current which is responsible for most of the climatic singularities of Chile. At the east we find the outstanding Andes, which is the longest continental mountain range. Chilean Andes' relatively dry slopes are dominated by deciduous woodland, shrub and xeric vegetation. Snowy altitudes and ever threatening volcanoes guard from their insurmountable heights the fertile valleys and wooded foothills. Finally the southernmost boundary is comprised by perpetual glaciers, frozen lands and fjiords. This remote frontier comprehends the legendary Cape Horn and beyond, disputing even part of the Antarctica continent which is claimed by Chile.
